When I went to the swimming pool this morning, in the dressing room I inadvertently noticed a boy of about age 9 had some pubic hair growing just above his penis. He had a black 1 cm long strand of pubic hair. I thought boys went through puberty approximately around ages 11-12. I was really shocked because I remember first noticing a few stray hairs around my penis a while ago, perhaps when I was around 12. But I’d say the more noticeable pubic hair, the tiny follicles above and beside my penis, really started appearing when I was closer to 12 and a half. At that time true pubic hairs appeared as tiny little follicles above the base of my penis as well as right beside it. Slowly, they got more numerous and grew longer. I’m now 14 (my voice hasn’t broken yet though). So, is it normal for a 9-year-old boy to start growing pubic hair?
